Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies

Located in downtown Banff, the Whyte Museum is an impressive building, in an impressive location, right on Alberta’s famous Bow River. For their “Gateway to the Rockies” exhibit, the Whyte Museum came to 3DS for a full Design/Build package. Using their initial concepts as a starting point and working with Juan Tanus of Kei Space, we created and installed a major gallery telling the story of human settlement in the Rocky Mountains.

Using a tremendous number of artifacts, artworks, archival photographs, recordings and historical documents, this engaging, interactive exhibition brings to life the men and women who shaped the culture of the Canadian Rockies. Starting with First Nations peoples, the exhibit moves through first contact and early explorers, the prospectors, the railroad and the beginnings of tourism, right up to the present day. Ending the exhibit with a bang, a full-sized replica helicopter represents the area’s modern-day heli-skiing industry.
